We wanted to bring to everyone’s attention that sometime in the next couple of weeks there will be some work happening at the White City Lagoons Enhancement area. This is the area with the path where bird viewing is allowed. During the work there will be some days when birding will not be possible. We will try to post specific days or time periods in which there is a closure. The site should be open on all weekends.
We ask the folks to use some common sense during this work. In other words, if there are big trucks and other heavy equipment being used in the enhancement area or the parking lot: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BIRD THE AREA! You are liable for your own safety and for your own vehicle so please don’t think you are the exception to the rule and are special. You are not!
The work should not take a long time to complete (likely a matter of days). We are adding material to the nesting /roosting islands to elevate them even more so they can be planted with native vegetation and stay above high-water levels that sometimes occur during the winter and early spring. The work also means the enhancement area will dry even further. Fortunately, the wet winter we experienced filled our lakes and reservoirs. Those bodies of water have a lot of nice mud habitat for fall shorebirds.
As we get more information on timing we will update everyone.
